Forehead lift is defined as surgeries performed to soften forehead wrinkles and provide a more fresh and youthful appearance. Forehead-lifting aesthetics can also be combined with eyebrow-lifting aesthetics. In the same session, the wrinkled appearance of the forehead can be reduced while the drooping eyebrows can be placed in a more suitable position. The shape and height of the eyebrow are two of the most important points for consideration. The highest point of an ideal eyebrow should be the point where 1/3 of the outer part and 2/3 of the inner part meet. Otherwise, an unnatural appearance can be obtained if the eyebrow side end is determined as the highest point of the eyebrow.
Hairline position is one of the most important determinants in forehead-lifting techniques. The hairline that is the point where hairy scalp and balding skin are joined together. If it is close to the eyebrows, in other words, if the forehead is narrow in vertical dimension, placing the forehead lifting incisions into the hair is appropriate. Wrinkles in narrow forehead can be treated with the open technique where bicoronal incision is used, and the whole of the forehead is lifted through the hair, but it can also be treated with the closed technique, called endoscopic, where the forehead is lifted by entering three or five points in the scalp. Both methods have separate advantages. In the open technique, where classic bicoronal incision is used, the forehead is lifted more homogeneously. By contrast, the incision is less, and recovery is easier and faster in endoscopic techniques. For patients with very large forehead, placing forehead lifting along the hairline is recommended so that the forehead does not widen vertically. In this case, the open technique, which is usually performed with bicoronal incision, is more appropriate.
